New Tab Widgets v1.14 – Picture-in-Picture for Any Widget

New Tab Widgets v1.14 ships one of the most requested features yet: Picture-in-Picture mode. Pop any widget out of your dashboard into a floating window that stays on top of every tab and application while you browse. No more switching back and forth to check your todo list, monitor exchange rates, or keep an AI chat alongside your work.

The Currency Converter also gains three new cryptocurrencies — BNB, Litecoin, and Tether — rounding out its coverage of the top digital assets.

🖼️ Picture-in-Picture Mode

Any widget on your dashboard can now be popped out into a floating window that stays visible no matter where you navigate.

How to use it

  1. Enter edit mode on your dashboard
  2. Click the Picture-in-picture button next to the settings icon on any widget
  3. Your widget detaches into a resizable floating window

Close the floating window any time to return the widget to your dashboard.

  • Pomodoro Timer — keep your focus timer visible in the corner of your screen while you work in any tab or app
  • Todo List or Sticky Note — keep your tasks visible while you research or write
  • Currency Converter or Stocks — monitor rates and prices without leaving your current tab
  • YouTube (IFrame) — watch a tutorial or podcast while you work
  • AI chat (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini…) — ask questions without losing your place

How it works

Picture-in-Picture in New Tab Widgets uses the browser's built-in Document Picture-in-Picture API. Your widget's full theme, styles, and interactivity carry over to the floating window — it's the real widget running live, not a static snapshot. The floating window automatically sizes itself to match the widget on your dashboard and can be freely resized.

Available to all users on Chrome and Chromium-based browsers that support the Document Picture-in-Picture API.

💱 Currency Converter — New Cryptocurrencies

The Currency Converter widget now supports three additional digital assets:

  • BNB — Binance Coin
  • LTC — Litecoin
  • USDT — Tether (USD stablecoin)

These join the existing lineup of 180+ fiat currencies, cryptocurrencies (BTC, ETH), and precious metals.

Other improvements in v1.14

  • Widget options tooltips — tooltips now appear on Picture-in-Picture and widget configuration buttons for clearer labelling
  • Cache-busted builds — output filenames now include a content hash, ensuring users always get the latest version after an update
  • Reliability fixes — various internal improvements to extension rules handling and build tooling

Picture-in-Picture is available to all users — no Pro subscription needed. Pro unlocks unlimited widgets, pages, cloud sync, premium widgets like Gmail, Calendar, RSS, and Spotify, plus full design control with custom CSS.
