Pop Out Any Widget with Picture-in-Picture
New Tab Widgets now supports Picture-in-Picture mode, letting you pop any widget out into a floating window that stays visible while you work in other tabs or applications.
Ever wished you could keep an eye on a widget while working in another tab? Now you can. Picture-in-Picture mode lets you pop any widget out of your dashboard and into a floating window that stays on top of everything else.
Whether you're monitoring stocks, following an RSS feed, watching a YouTube video, or keeping your todo list visible while you work — Picture-in-Picture keeps your most important widgets within reach at all times.
How it works
- Enter edit mode on your dashboard
- Click the Picture-in-picture button next to the settings icon on any widget
- Your widget pops out into a resizable floating window
The floating window stays on top of other windows, so you can switch tabs, open other apps, and your widget remains visible. Close the floating window any time to return the widget to your dashboard.
Why you'll love it
Keep context while you browse
Pop out a Todo List or Sticky Note widget and keep your tasks visible while you research, read articles, or work in other tabs. No more switching back and forth to check what's next.
Monitor at a glance
Detach a Stocks, Currency Converter, or Weather widget and let it float in the corner of your screen. Stay informed without interrupting your workflow.
Watch while you work
Pop out a YouTube widget and watch a tutorial, podcast, or livestream while you code, write, or browse. It works just like the video PiP you already know — but for any widget.
Chat alongside your work
Keep a Claude, ChatGPT, or any other AI chat widget floating beside your browser while you work on a project. Ask questions and get answers without losing your place.
Designed to feel native
Picture-in-Picture in New Tab Widgets uses the browser's built-in Document Picture-in-Picture API, so it feels like a natural part of Chrome. Your widget's theme, styles, and full interactivity carry over to the floating window — it's not a static snapshot, it's the real widget running live.
The floating window automatically sizes itself to match the widget on your dashboard, and you can resize it to whatever dimensions you prefer.
Availability
Picture-in-Picture is available to all users on Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers that support the Document Picture-in-Picture API. Just look for the Picture-in-picture button next to the settings icon on any widget.
