We're excited to announce New Tab Widgets v1.8, a release focused on keeping you informed. This update introduces two highly-requested widgets — RSS Feeds and Gmail — so you can monitor the web and your inbox right from your new tab page.

🗞️ RSS Feed Widget

Stay up to date with the content you care about. The new RSS Feed widget lets you display live posts from any website that publishes an RSS or Atom feed — news sites, blogs, podcasts, YouTube channels, and more.

Key features

  • Multiple feed sources — combine several feeds into one widget for a personalised news stream
  • OPML import — import a list of feeds from your existing RSS reader in one step
  • YouTube channel support — paste a YouTube channel URL to get the latest videos as a feed
  • Atom feed support — works with both classic RSS and modern Atom feeds

Getting started

  1. Open a new tab and click + Widget
  2. Search for RSS Feed and click Create widget
  3. Paste the URL of any website, feed, or YouTube channel
  4. The widget scans the page for an available feed automatically

📧 Gmail Widget

Your inbox is now a first-class citizen on your dashboard. The Gmail widget connects to your Google account and displays your emails directly on your new tab page — no more switching tabs just to check for new messages.

Key features

  • Custom search queries — show only unread emails, starred messages, or any Gmail search filter
  • At-a-glance previews — see sender, subject, and a snippet for each message
  • One-click open — click any email to open it directly in Gmail
  • Pro feature — available to New Tab Widgets Pro subscribers

Other improvements in v1.8

  • Blog and widgets page — a dedicated /widgets page listing all available widgets
  • Performance — lazy loading at startup for a faster initial render
  • RSS date handling — more robust parsing for RFC 2822 and ISO date formats
