New Tab Widgets v1.4 is a foundational release focused on reliability and global availability. It reworks how dashboard state is stored and synced, ships the Art widget for all users, and makes pricing smarter for users outside the US.

🔄 Unified State Store and Multi-Page Sync

This release merges the widget and page stores into a single unified state system. The practical result:

  • Multi-page sync is now reliable — switching between dashboard pages and returning later works correctly every time
  • Widget positions sync across sessions — free layout item positions are saved and restored properly
  • Focus sync — opening the dashboard in a new tab syncs the latest state from other open tabs

This fixes a number of subtle bugs where changes on one page would not be reflected when switching back from another page.

🎨 Art Widget

Bring the world's greatest artworks to your new tab. The Art Widget pulls images from publicly available museum collections, displaying a high-resolution painting, photograph, or sculpture as a widget on your dashboard.

Each time you open a new tab, the widget can show a different work — making your dashboard a rolling gallery of human creativity. Available to all users.

💳 Currency-Aware Billing

New Tab Widgets now supports checkout in multiple currencies, making it clearer what you'll actually be charged. Supported currencies include AUD, USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, and INR.

Other improvements in v1.4

  • Iframe widget z-ordering — fixed an issue where iframes would render on top of other widgets and modals; focus is now correctly managed
  • Widget loading states — improved skeleton/loading styles while widgets are initialising
  • Upgrade modal — clearer upgrade prompts showing what's included in Pro vs free
  • Google Art plugin — now available in production for all users
  • Free widget limit — reduced from 25 to 20 widgets for the free tier
  • Random wallpaper keyword — new tabs automatically pick a random background keyword for variety
